This Wood-Pigeon is a winter visitor to the forests at the foot of the hills round the Nepal Valley [Kathmandu]. It is fairly common in certain places from December to February, associating in small flocks (J Scully-1879, Stray Feathers viii, p339).

It is seen exclusively in the wild state, and is very shy, seldom or never entering the cultivated fields for the purpose of feeding, but adhering almost always to the woods, and living upon their produce, in the shape of grass, seeds, and berries (Brian Hodgson-1836, Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal, p122).
